The Hidden Benefit Of A Porch Overhang

Plymouth Meeting Porch OverhangA Plymouth Meeting family had a lovely paver patio installed at the front of their house, and wanted to make more use of it. The homeowners called JR Carpentry & Tile with an idea: to build a porch overhang across the entire front of the house.

There are several benefits to this type of porch overhang. Some are more obvious, while others might not be as apparent until the structure is complete.

First, the overhang clearly creates a cozy outdoor space to sit outside and relax in the evenings. No need to worry about the intense summer sun beating down on their heads. They can even sit outside and enjoy the soothing sounds of a summer rainstorm under the protection of the brand new overhang.

Second, the final product is visually appealing. By simply adding a porch overhang, we created a very warm, welcoming feel at the front of the house. This is a home that family and friends alike will love walking into.

The biggest hidden benefit of this type of porch overhang is its effects on the client’s cooling bill. In the summertime, the intense sun used to beat down on the front of the house, causing the interior temperature to rise. With the new overhang, the sun is blocked, keeping the main floor of the house shaded and eliminating the need to crank the AC.

The customer was extremely happy with the outcome, and has already told us they can’t wait to call us out again for help with future projects. We’re thrilled to be a part of this family’s home!
